THERMAL BREAK ON THE WESTCOAST

The tenth and last season of the popular Mitre 10 Dream home reality series saw two teams battle it out on The South Island’s West Coast.

Two couples are challenged to turn a dilapidated house into their “Dream Home”. Each week the teams renovate an area of the house over a single weekend with viewers voting to help the judges determine the weekly winner. The winning team at the end of the series gets to keep their dream home with the second team given an option to purchase their home at a public auction.

The West Coast is famed for its wild rugged beauty along with often wild weather and some of the countries highest rainfall. Luckily the two dream homes were renovated using the best in thermally broken windows (double glazing) incorporating technoforms thermal break.

This is the sort of country where APL’s Thermal Heart high performance thermally broken aluminium windows really comes into its own helping eliminate West Coast condensation and allowing home owners comfortable year round temperatures while reducing energy use.

We recently spoke to Dave and Rachael of the Blue Team to find out just how they were enjoying living in their home with their young daughter Kayla and now a very new edition with the arrival of their son Liam.

Dave told us “ We are all loving living in a home that we really helped to create. Our windows have worked really well. Unlike friends who built at a similar time and used standard double glazed windows we have suffered no condensation and our home has remained warm and comfortable all year round.”

THE LAST WORD ON WINDOWS….

We hope you have found this site useful and it’s got you thinking more about your fenestration (window and doors)

In New Zealand and Australia fenestration plays a big part in our home designs. Our climate lends itself to indoor outdoor living, our landscapes encourage us to look out at some lovely views and our way of life tends to be more laid back and casual than our Northern Hemisphere cousins. For these reasons we tend to have a lot more glazing in the designs of our homes

So its worth thinking about how you want to live your life. How can you take advantage of all the positive things great fenestration offers while at the same time making your home more:

  1. Healthy and comfortable year round
  2. Secure and safe
  3. Energy efficient

The right design of high performance thermally broken windows can go a long way towards achieving these year round gains while keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter.
